As of December 2017, UAMS has 2,834 students and 822 medical residents. It is the state’s largest public employer with more than 10,000 employees, including 1,522 faculty members and more than 1,200 physicians.

In January 2018, UAMS announced that its Psychiatric Research Institute received a gift of $436,000 to help research schizophrenia from the Caroline T. Briggs Charitable Trust. The gift will go toward helping those who have schizophrenia by developing a research program that will include both outside researchers in the field and younger faculty members.
